Daily Morning Prayer

Find a quiet place and allow enough time so as not to be rushed and not to cut short the time of listening.

Sit for a few moments and take time to relax – take a couple of deep breaths – light a candle or turn on some quiet music or find a picture.

When you are ready please use this form of prayer

O Lord open our lips

And our mouth shall proclaim your praise

May Christ, the true, the only light

banish all darkness from our hearts and minds.

Blessed are you, creator of all,

to you be praise and glory for ever.

as your dawn renews the face of the earth

bringing light and life to all creation,

may we rejoice in this day you have made;

as we wake refreshed from the depths of sleep,

open our eyes to behold your presence

and strengthen our hands to do your will,

that the world may rejoice and give you praise.

Blessed be God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God for ever.

The psalm for the day from the list ending with

Glory to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning is now

and shall be for ever.  Amen.

Reading from the list (any version of the Bible is appropriate – 2 different ones to compare the translations would be good if you can) followed by a short time of meditation on the reading.  Ask yourself one of the following questions about the reading.  Does this reflect anything which is happening to me at this time? Does this reflect what is happening in the world today? Would I have reacted in the same way as those who were there at the time?

Collect for the day from the list

Prayer for Church growth

God of Mission

Who alone brings growth to your Church,

Send your Holy Spirit to give

Vision to our planning,

Wisdom to our actions,

And power to our witness.

Help our church to grow in numbers,

In spiritual commitment to you,

And in service to our community,

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Lord’s Prayer any version your feel appropriate.

Your own prayers from items on the news, the prayers for the sick, the prayers for the deceased and any prayers you are moved to make.

A short time of listening

The Grace

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ

The love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit

Be with us all evermore.  Amen.

Collects (01.09.2019 – 30.11.2019)

11th After Trinity (01.09.19)

O God, you declare your mighty power

most chiefly in showing mercy and pity:

mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace,

that we, sunning the way of your commandments,

may receive your gracious promises,

and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

12th After Trinity (08.09.19)

Almighty and everlasting God,

you are always more ready to hear that we to pray

and to give more than either we desire or deserve:

pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy,

forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid

and giving us good things which we are not worthy to ask

but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.  Amen

Holy Cross (14.09.19)

Almighty God

who in the passion of your blessed Son

made an instrument of painful death

to be for us the means of life and peace:

grant us so to glory in the cross of Christ

that we may gladly suffer for his sake;

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

13th After Trinity (15.09.19)

Almighty God

who called your Church to bear witness

that you were in Christ reconciling the world to yourself:

help us to proclaim the good news of your love,

that all who hear it may be drawn to you;

through him who was lifted up on the cross,

and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

St Matthew (21.09.19)

O almighty God,

whose blessed Son called Matthew the tax collector

to be an apostle and evangelist

give us grace to forsake the selfish pursuit of gain and the possessive love of riches

that we may follow in the way of your Son Jesus Christ,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

14th After Trinity (22.09.19)

Almighty God,

whose only Son opened for us

a new and living way to your presence:

give us pure hearts and steadfast wills

to worship you in spirit and in truth;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

15th After Trinity (29.09.19)

God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit upon your Church

in the burning fire of your love:

grant that your people may be fervent in the fellowship of the gospel

that, always abiding in you,

they may be found steadfast in faith and active service;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

St Michael and All Angels (30.09.19)

Everlasting God,

you have ordained and constituted

the ministries of angels and mortals in wonderful order:

grant that as your holy angels always serve you in heaven,

so, at your command,

they may help and defend us on earth;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Harvest Festival (06.10.19)

Eternal God,

your crown the year with your goodness

and your give us the fruits of the earth in their season:

grant that we may use them to your glory,

for the relief of those in need and for our own well-being;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

16th After Trinity (06.10.19)

O Lord, we beseech you mercifully to hear the prayers

of your people who call upon you:

and grant that they may both perceive

and know what things they ought to do,

and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil them;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

17th After Trinity (13.10.19)

Almighty God,

you have made us for yourself,

and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you:

pour your love into our hearts and draw us to yourself.

and so bring us at last to your heavenly city

where we shall see you face to face;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Saint Luke (18.10.19)

Almighty God,

you called Luke the physician,

to be an evangelist and physician of the soul:
by the grace of the Spirit

and through the wholesome medicine of the gospel,

give your Church the same love and power to heal;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

18th After Trinity (20.10.19)

Almighty and everlasting God,

increase in us your gift of faith

that, forsaking what lies behind

and reaching out to that which is before,

we may run  the way of everlasting joy;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Last After Trinity (27.10.19)

Blessed Lord,

who caused all Holy Scripture to be written for our learning:

help us so to hear them,

to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them

that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word,

we may embrace and for ever hold fast the hope of everlasting life,

which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Saints Simon and Jude (28.10.19)

Almighty God,

who built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,

with Jesus Christ himself the chief cornerstone:

so join us together in unity of spirit by their doctrine,

that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

All Saints’ Day (01.11.19)

Eternal God, our maker and Redeemer,

grant us, with all the faithful departed, the sure benefits of your Son’s saving passion

and glorious resurrection

that, in the last day,

when you gather up all things in Christ,

we may with them enjoy the fullness of your promises;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

4th Before Advent (03.11.19)

Almighty and eternal God,

you have kindled the flame of love in the hearts of the saints:

grant to us the same faith and power of love,

that, as we rejoice in their triumphs,

we may be sustained by their example and fellowship;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

3rd Before Advent (10.11.19)

Almighty Father,

whose will is to restore all things

in your beloved Son, the Kings of all:

govern the hearts and minds of those in authority,

and bring the families of the nations,

divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin,

to be subject to his just and gentle rule;

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

Remembrance Day (11.11.19)

Almighty Father,

we remember before you those who sacrificed their lives

in the struggle for freedom,

and we pray that the justice and peace for which they fought

may become established toady among the families of the nations

we ask this in him who taught us to pray

for the coming of your kingdom on earth as it is in heaven,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

2nd Before Advent (17.11.19)

Heavenly Father,                                                                                                              whose blessed Son was revealed to destroy the works of the devil                                                                and to make us the children of God and heirs of eternal life:                                              grant that we, having this hope,                                                                                           may purify ourselves even as he is pure;                                                                              that when he shall appear in power and great glory                                                                   we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom;                                         where he is alive and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

Christ the King Sunday Next Before Advent (24.11.19)

Eternal Father,

whose Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of heaven

that he might rule over all things as Lord and King:

keep the church in the unity of the Holy Spirit

in in the bond of peace,

and bring the whole created order to worship at his feet;

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

Saint Andrew (30.11.19)

Almighty God,

who gave such grace to your apostle Saint Andrew

that he readily obeyed the call of your Son Jesus Christ

and brought his brother with him:

call us by your holy word,

and give us grace to follow you without delay

and to tell the good news of your kingdom;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
